NJ City Councilman Found DEAD inside BURNING CAR: "Not Suspicious"

Foul play is not suspected in the death of Councilman Jonathan Giordano, who was found dead inside a burning car on Saturday, the Hudson County, NJ Prosecutor's Office announced.

Giordano, 50, was one of two council members representing the town's second ward, having taken office in 2015.

At about 12:45 p.m., Kearny Police reported to the scene of a car fire on Arlington Avenue, a short dead-end street off Schuyler Avenue, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.

Giordano's lifeless body was found in the driver's seat of a blue Volkswagen Beetle in the parking lot of his family-owned business West Hudson Lumber and Millwork, she said.

Final results from the medical examiner are still pending, but authorities do not consider his death suspicious, and foul play is not suspected, Suarez said.

Giordano was born and raised in Kearny and graduated from the town's high school in 1984. He attended New Jersey City University for two years before joining the family business.

"He was a very kind and caring person. He truly loved his community," Mayor Al Santos said on Sunday.

"Jon was a great friend to the community and a respected public servant," the Kearny Police Department said in a post on Facebook. "May he rest in peace."
Giordano is survived by his wife, Ivy, and young son Enzo. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
