Drunk driver flips car in hotel parking lot

A 24-year-old Jersey City man was hospitalized after police say he struck three other cars before flipping his own in the parking lot of a North Bergen hotel.

Jared Wilson was taken to Jersey City Medical Center on Sunday night after being extricated from his overturned 2016 Nissan Altima, said Phil Swibinski, a spokesman for the North Bergen Police Department. Swibinski said Wilson was believed to be at the hospital on Sunday, where he was being treated for a head injury.

Swibinski said Wilson had been driving northbound on Paterson Plank Road at 9:20 p.m., when he rear-ended another vehicle. Wilson then continued traveling north, Swibinski said, hitting two other cars near 27th street, before turning into the parking lot of the Meadowlands View Hotel, a towering white structure with terraced rooms overlooking the vast wetlands west of the Palisades.

After entering the lot, Swibinski said Wilson lost control of his vehicle and overturned, damaging hotel property and wrecking the Altima.

He was taken to the hospital by a North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue ambulance, said Swibinski, adding that, in addition to DWI, Wilson was also charged with reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
